Reflection: This was easily the most fun activity we do in this class and it very clearly relates directly to my topic. Even though my method for starting a fire doesn't quite relate to my situation, it's still a very useful skill to have for just about any situation. While we were watching the class start their fires, I found the magnifying class to be a very interesting strategy and if I had to do this assignment again I think that is the method I would try. This assignment also made me realize how hard starting a fire can be without the proper equipment. Thankfully, my partner and I didn't have any trouble getting our fire started and we came prepared with the proper supplies.

Reflection: This presentation directly relates to my topic and was very useful for my scenario. Mr. Meckley went over different techniques for obtaining clean drinking water and starting a fire. Both of these skills would be very good knowledge to have for my scenario. He also went over what to look for in shelter and what type of supplies you should keep with you encase you do find yourself lost in the woods. Some of the information and techniques he went over really could help save your life. This presentation was extremely helpful for my own knowledge and for my website.
Summary: The guest speaker for this presentation was detective Gebhart. Mr. Gebhart has been working for the Penntownship Police Department for 15 years. He came to our class to talk about what to do if there's an active shooter in the school. He started off his presentation talking about what areas are usually targeted by shooters. These areas are usually open and have a lot of people. The shooter chooses these locations because they can hurt as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time possible. The next point that detective Gebhart talked about was how long active shootings last. They are usually less than 15 minutes. The most important thing that detective Gebhart covered was the three F's, flee, fortify, and fight. These are the steps you are supposed to try and take during an active shooting. Finally, he talked about the difference between cover and concealment. Cover is something that could stop a bullet and concealment is something to keep you out of sight. He also added that you should try and find cover before concealment but concealment is better than nothing. Analysis: The information that detective Gebhart went over in his presentation was very important and could save someone's life. This information really helped me realize what to do if there is an active shooter and not just at school. Anywhere, because something like this could happen anywhere and anytime. That's why the information that he talked about is so useful and important. Reflection: While this presentation didn't directly relate to my topic but, I can still use this information throughout my life. A main takeaway from that presentation was be aware of your surroundings. Everyone can learn to start being aware of their surroundings and report something if it's out of the ordinary. This is a very useful skill to have in any situation.
Summary: The speaker for this presentation was Mr. Renoll. He has a degree in biology from Lebanon Valley College and he attended Clemson University and recently received his master degree in biology. He also learned about evolutionary biology specifically. He was talking about the topic of Darwin and survival of the fittest through evolution. He also talked about the two main parts of Darwin's book. First, was that evolution does actually occur. The second main point from his book was that evolution occurs through natural selection. This means that the dominate traits for that environment will survive and the non-dominate traits will die off. I found Darwin’s background story to be very interesting. He knew he always wanted to study nature and natural selection. But his parents wanted him to become a doctor. Finally, he also talked about the genetic makeup of humans. Humans share DNA patterns with all different kinds of species. I also found this part of the presentation very interesting. Analysis: This information applies to survival and survival concepts because it talked about the two main principles of evolution. This information added to my understanding of survival because it talked about how all living things today are a result of evolution. I learned a lot of interesting facts about Charles Darwin. Like how he was in the Royal Navy and sailed on the Voyage of the Beagle. Reflection: This presentation relates to my topic because prior to our society that we know today, man was living in the wilderness and trying to survive. Due to evolution and adaptation the best suited people for that environment will survive, and their dominate traits that allowed them to survive will be passed onto their children. While the people with less dominate traits are less likely to be able to survive in the wilderness, there traits won't be passed on unless they can survive.
